my outfit to an Indian wedding

Just wanted to share with you what I wore because the embellishment on it is so detailed and as it was hand made I would imagine it would have taken a long time to make. I seem to be seeing a lot of embellished garments at the moment so this outfit seemed appropriate.
I wore bangles to go with it which definitely went with the whole sparkly look.

Lisa Eldridge make-up

My favorite make-up artist at the moment has to be Lisa Eldridge. She created some of the looks for London Fashion Week 2014 and has done many celebrity's and editorial make- up.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley having her make- up done by Lisa at London Fashion week using products by Chanel and Tom Ford. I like the dewy, natural look she is giving her, nothing too heavy.
Keira Knightley make- up by Lisa Eldridge for a movie premier. I think red lip stick really suits brunettes but lips can often overshadow the eyes. However, here the lips and eyes really compliment each other as the eye shadow used is not too dark as browns have been used. I think brown eye-liner is a must- have especially for the bottom inner lash line. Its much more natural looking than jet black.
Kate Winslet on the cover of Harper's Bizaar. I'm such a fan of the wing shaped liquid eye-liner. It really adds shape and makes the eyes stand out giving a feminine look. It also gives a sexy 60s kind of vibe. This is really where I would use brown eye liner on the bottom line for a look that's not too heavy a long with some brown eye shadow with a slight shimmer and beige eye-shadow at the eye contours. I think how Kate's look has been put together here is amazing!
These are definitely my favorite looks that I would wear myself. I will keep you updated on other make-up artists and looks.

who inspires me and has impacted upon the fashion world?

For me, one individual is Audrey Hepburn. She made the 'little black dress' aka LBD famous, something simple but still to look amazing in and this is still a popular garment today. In her films such as Breakfast At Tiffany's she insisted on wearing Givenchy clothing. She clearly had an eye for fashion. In my eyes she defied Hollywood classic beauty- thick brows and dainty features and a big smile. She wasn't just a pretty face but also had comedic, confident personality which was shown through the roles she played in films and theater. Models today can't just look good but also have to have something about them and I think Audrey set the standard of this back in the 1950s.

Its still going to be a coat season...

Its feels like winters coming to an end. No more hats, gloves and scarves soon! So less accessories to worry about. However, that doesn't mean that coats vanish. Vogue says it may be due to global warming that coats are still part of spring/summer 2014 collection. These coats seem especially designed for slightly chilly weather- not being to thick and heavy. Some of the images that I have included here are from London Fashion Week. The top right green leather coat is Hermes, the brightly patterned one below Celine, the beige one below being Michael Kors and the bright red one Mui Mui and there were plently more. I think the coats are great and I love the style of the Michael Korse one and the colours that could complement it would be beautiful.

Its not just the top end designers that are including coats in their spring/summer collections but also high street stores such as Zara and one of their coats is shown above on the right. This means that, being more affordable, nearly everyone can get their hands on a new coat for this upcoming season.

my brand zine on Celine

For part of my first module we had to create a brand zine consisting of 2000 words. The first section was to be a brand analysis and the second about a new concept for the brand. I chose Celine because I love their style and how being minimalist can still be feminine and pretty. I had to think very carefully in how I would lay out each page as it had to be representative of the brand- its identity and core values. I learnt that Celine is all about block pastel colours, often not using many patterns. Below is a mood board that I create to try and sum up what the brand is about. Using a baby pink pastel colour shows that it is a feminine, elegant brand.

For my new concept I chose for Celine to introduce customisation of their bags. I thought that this would widen Celine's customer base as I described in my zine.
After receiving feed back about my zine I reflected on what I could have done better in terms of the layout and the content. For the layout, I should have stuck to a theme for the brand analysis section, maybe including more white back grounds. It also could have been better if I spread the content over more pages. Overall I feel as though my zine could be stronger if I did this but I am still happy with it.

fashion loves art.

I found this lecture very interesting and really made me realise how much fashion is inspired d by the art culture and various artists dating back to the 1800s. After all, where did fashion get it's colours, forms and shapes from in the beginning? Art Deco caught my attention as I feel it is a style in fashion today as it is an art
at present and in the past. Not only did this art movement inspire clothing, but also architecture of buildings e.g. the Chrysler building in the US and also furniture and doors as shown above. It is a big part of fashion today- a lot in fashion is made up of geometric shapes. How would we have thought and known about this if it weren't for Art Deco and its artists?
Both of the above page are from my reflective journal and it displays my interest in Art Deco and its influence.

unforgettable sunset

One of the most beautiful things about winter's dark afternoons... it was a perfect end to a shopping trip for Christmas!
